Questions to dig deeper into this week’s topic:

1. We’ve all had bad days. Take a moment and read through the worst day ever in Job 1. After reading write down what you would say to a friend who had just experienced this kind of loss.
2. When things go wrong in life and we’re really hurting, we either assume we did something wrong, or we blame God for being unjust (an acceptable third option is to blame others). Which are you most likely to do when you’re hurting? Why do you think that’s your default?
3. Job might be described as a book of the most common wrong answers to life’s biggest questions. For a sampling, read Job 4. Which parts of Eliphaz the Temanite’s answer do you agree with? Which parts do you disagree with?
4. Pastor Dion Garrett described the ending of Job to be comforting in this part of his life. Read it for yourself in Job 42. What is your reaction to this conclusion.
5. The Bible holds in tension two truths, you matter so much and you don’t matter much at all. Taken together there’s peace and freedom. Taken separately each are dangerous. Sit with God for a few minutes and ponder both of these truths, be open to whatever you might experience.
